017 A small ruin almost extinct a little west of Newhall House, it is said to have been the chapel attached to the monastery, when Newhall House was a religious establishment in the 13 or 14th. century, alongside is a deep circular pit called "Lifters Hole" said to be the place where malefactors suffered imprisonment etc. at the instance of the lord of the manor, but its vicinity to the holy edifice casts doubt upon either object (see the description of Lifters Hole)

017 A very romantic Glen west of Newhall House, through which the North Esk meanders, it is said to be the "Habbie's Howe' painted in Ramsay's Gentle Shepherd.
