012 A large reservoir or lake formed upon the "Logan Burn" and supplied by it, and the surface water of the adjacent hills. The Edinburgh Water Company after filtering the water in 3 small ponds made for the purpose, convey it by pipes to the City. The ancient Church of St. Catherines is submerged at its north end, but during very droughty summers the stones of this interesting ruin are visible above the surface. There is an islet near its south end, planted recently with trees.

012 A tolerably sized hill on the farm of Turnhouse, now annexed to "House of Muir", it is on the Pentland Range and on its summit stands a Trigl. [Trigonometrical Station] called "Farmhouse head".
