TORTOISE BROOCH (NORSE) FOUND HERE A.D. 1830 [Ospisdale] | 112 | Tortoise Brooch (Norse) found near. - Afterwards perhaps utilised as a Pillory in Connection with the Hospital or Travellers Rest (now Ospisdale) maintained by the Bishops whose Summer Palace was at SKibo in the Same neighbourhood. Traces of a Staple Hole and of the Swinging chafe of the probable "jougs" or iron collar are still visible. [Initialled] William J M |

Tortoise Broch - the
undermentioned information
was received from the Rev [Reverend]
James M. Joass. M.A. [Master of Arts] Golspie
"The Manse Golspie
8. April 1874.
My dear Sir.
"I am just informed that the
Ospisdale Brooch was found
in 1830 during the making of a
farm road about 300 yards
N.E. [North East] of the Pillar by the road
side.
Many human remains and
fragments of urns were dug up in
the field between the pillar
and the Sea
Dates not properly Known"
