030.02 | Situated a little to the west of the present village of that name, was a Roman town and Seaport; and an anchor was dug up here in 1707. Antiquarians are of opinion that the River Carron was at one time navigable farther up than the the site of Old Camelon, and the sea at one time came up near Falkirk & Covered that tract of Country now called the Carse. General Roy in reference to it in his Military Antiquities poses it to be the Roman town of Ad Vallum. |
