018.16 | A small village pleasantly situated at the foot of Airth Hill. and a quarter of a mile from the Firth of Forth. The houses are mostly two storeys, and tiled, A good number of them in bad repair and a few in ruins. It contains three churches, two schools, a Post Office and five public houses. Population in 1851 was 517. The villagers are chiefly employed among the farmers in the neighbowrhood. William Graham Esqr Airth Cas. [Castle] is principal proprietor. What is known as Airth Harbour, is in such a dilapidated state, that even small boats cannot approach it with safety. |
