004.15 This name applies to a narrow neck of land, jutting out to the North Sea, it is about three quarters of a mile in length, and about one hundred yards of an average width, the furthest out portion (Outsta Ness) of it is cut off into an Island, by a very narrow channel, as is also the mid portion (Mid Ness) but the latter channel is passable at any time except with heavy "Spring Tides" accompanied by strong East or west gales, This neck forms the East boundary of the Wick of Breckin and is the property of the late Mr. Irvine Midbreck it is situated about a quarter of a mile to the East of "Breckin"

The Ness of Houlland is divided into three parts
the extreme north end is "Outsta Ness" on an island, next
"Mid Ness on the adjoining pt. [part]; & lastly "Inna Ness" South
of the gully dividing it from Mid Ness.
