In 1334, Edward Baliol, by an insidious treaty, conceded the County of Roxburgh, with nearly all the Southern Shires of Scotland to Edward III., and the castle & town were objects of valorous Contests during more than a Century and a quarter. In 1342, Sir alexander Ramsay, one of the bravest, & most Successful Commanders of the age, took the Castle of Roxburgh, from the English by Escalade. the English regained it on the Capture of David II., in 1346, & they retained it notwithstanding every attempt, [continued on page 7] |
