Bruce, by the treaty of Northampton in 1328. In 1334, Edward Baliol, by an insidious treaty, conceded the County of Roxburgh, with nearly all the Southern
Shires of Scotland to Edward III., and the castle & town were objects of valorous Contests during more than a
Century and a quarter. In 1342, Sir alexander Ramsay, one of the bravest, & most Successful Commanders of the age, took the Castle of Roxburgh, from the English by Escalade. the English regained it on the Capture of David II., in 1346, & they retained it notwithstanding every attempt, [continued on page 7]
