008.05 A very large "Camp". Surrounding one of the "Eildon Hills, Composed of a Single "fosse", And double "Rampart". on the South, And a part of the north - the remainder, having a double fosse, And Ramparts It appears to have had Several entrances, but the two principal ones Appear to have been on the east and west Sides, And are Still very distinct Inside the Camp, on the South Side, there is An enclosure, slightly raised, the outside having been faced with Small Stones - but the greater part of them have been Carried off,

denies that this is a Roman Camp - He states this
to be a British Camp. and that the Roman Camp
Stood below this Camp. at Newstead. he states
that this Camp was the work of the
Romanized Britons.

Jeffrey in his History of Roxburghshire
treats this Subject very ably, and agrees
with Chalmers.
