(Descriptive Remarks)
This name applies to an extensive arm of the sea stretching from a short distance south west of Dingwall in a north easterly direction, until its waters flow through a narrow outlet between the Souters of Cromarty, into the Moray Forth. The Cromarty Firth is a safe anchorage and is often frequented by vessels caught in storms on the east coast.
