OS1/26/15/1 KILMACOLM [parish] Kilmalcolm Kilmalcolm Kilmalcolm Kilmalcolm New Statistical Account Fullarton's Gazetteer Chalmers Caledonia County Directory 002; 003; 006; 007 "The extent of the parish is about 6 miles Square; it is bounded on the west by the parishes of Port-Glasgow, Greenock, Inverkip and Largs; on the east by Killallan and Houston; on the south by Kilbarchan and Lochwinnoch; and on the north by Erskine and the river Clyde, The general appearance of the parish partakes of the Highland character. The lands in general rise in gentle swells from the river and in some places are rocky and moorish. Here and there are clumps of planting, which give beauty and variety to the Surrounding Scenery, This is particularly the case towards the South, The Village is about 350 feet above the level of the Sea, and few Spots command a more beautiful view than the rising grounds on the Shore, At certain seasons of the year, there are heavy falls of rain, attended with high" winds

There are however two portions of the Old church remaining, on the South Side, and that on the South-east side of the new erection. Again these portions have for many generations contained the tombs of the families of Duchal and Glencairn.
