011.07 | This Town is delightfully situated in a Valley towards the South part of the Parish, placed, on account of the elevated ground which partly surrounds it on the South and East sides. There are four leading thoroughfares, named in their several localities. The houses vary from one to two stories, mostly in good condition; those near "The Cross" are the oldest, particularly the "Old house", which appears to have been a long time in existance. There are no Public Works of any note here. There are 2 Churches, 2 Schools, 1 Post-Office, 1 Gas Works for supplying the houses and Streets with Gas, together with a Bank, 2 Inns and several Public Houses. All of which are situated in the Town. It is watered on the south by the Kilbarchan Burn. |
