"This parish was anciently called Polloc or Pollok; and this name was derived from the Celtic Pol, Signifying a pool, in a river or rivulet; The extreme length of this parish from E. [East] to W. [West] is about 3½ Miles, from N. [North] to S. [South] about 3. It is bounded on the North by the Phs. [Parishes] of Govan and Abbey, on the W. [West] by Abbey and Neilston, on the S. [South] by Mearns and on the E. [East] by Cathcart. The antiquities of the Ph. [Parish] are few and not very interesting. There is no part of this parish detached, nor is there a detached portion of any other within this. John C. Giles O.S. [Ordinance Surveyor] |
