012.07 | Mr John Hosie farmer Old Crookston now about 80 Years old States that he well recollects the ditch and ramparts on Dykebar Hill named in his youthful days a Roman Camp. he asserts that when ploughing about the Hill he has often found Spear heads Swords, bits of Swords and Curious Chain links but at present he has not any in his possession he further states that the Stones forming the Masonry of the Encampment were Carted away for the building of Hawkhead Mill Dam, and other walls in the Neighbourhood he himself says Carted hundreds of loads for such purposes Mr Walter Bowie of Hollybush well recollects the position And appearance of the Supposed encampment. William Jones at Mavisbank also Corroborates the above together with William Hamilton the present Farmer who States that he levelled the Ramparts as he calls them. |
