013 | [Situation] About 50 Chains N E. [North East] from Scot's Mill On the spot indicated stood a Hospitium dedicated to St Leanord for the support of aged and infirm persons, and for temporary relief to strangers: not a trace of it now remains, but portions of it were visible some years ago. Of its history little is known but its site can be well identified. It gave its name to "Chapleyaurds" to some houses in the vicinity, which were removed some years ago . (For an account of this institution see "Peebles and its Neighbourhood" published by the Messrs Chambers) |
