008.16 Two Small Croft Consisting of a dwelling house and garden etc Situated in a Plantation ½ a Mile Southward of Gillonhill Farm and abt.[about] 10 ch [chains] South of the parish boundary which leads in a Western direction through wood till it enters the Burn of the Stripe or the Black Burn Proprietor The DuKe of Richmond.

008.16 The well known grave of John Gillon who was executed in the Spring of the year 1811. for Murdering a young woman (at a point which is marked by the Thorn Tree which stands about 70 links north of Said grave) It is Said the Sentence was to be hanged and his body to be left remaining on the gallows. The irons or hoops which tied his dead body to the gibbet contrivance are still to be Seen with Mr Allan Hills which is abt.[about] 11Ch [Chains] westward of Said grave. It is Said however that after 3 months the body was taken down and intered on the Site of the gibbet. Another grave of a Woman who committed Suicide at Garmouth some years after is along-Side, and both are well defined; on a little Knoll abt[about] 70 links E. [East] of an Occupation road in the plantation and within 6 chains of where the Said road Crosses the Parish boundary a little eastward.
