A small portion of this parish consisting of about 43 acres called Moycarse, is situated on the east of the River Findhorn, which portions form a Detached part No. [Number] 1 of the County of Nairn There are no detached portions of this parish and there are no detached portions of another parish situated within it.

Its course through Strathdearn is a gently running stream through a well cultivated Highland district through Nairn to within about eight miles of its mouth it is a wild stream running between steep & high rocky Banks, the lower portion is through a well cultivated country.

OS1/12/10/63 DARNAWAY CASTLE Darnaway Castle A. Colvin Esq. Factor, Earlsmill A. Paxton Parish School master at Dyke Revd. [Reverend] John McEwen Dyke 015.03 Darnaway Castle, the present building was commenced in 1802 and finished in 1812, and is said to be erected on the site of an old Castle of the Same name as the present one. There is a large Hall attached, which the "New Statl. [Statistical] account describes thus 'Forming the back wing of the castle of Darnaway Stands an ancient hall measuring 89 feet long by 35 feet broad. Its lofty roof is supported by massif beams of oak, and resembles those of Parliament House of Edinburgh, and Guildhall London. It is said to have been erected by Thomas Randolph, Earl of Moray. A large table of oak, and a chair of the same material which bear evident marks of great antiquity are still preserved as memorials of the office and hospitality of the Regent." [Royal Engineers] reply to Remarks There was a large Hall attached to the Ancient Castle of Darnaway, and a large Hall still stands on the Site of the old one, but it is all quite modern, with the exception of the interior of the roof which was supported by machinery untill the present walls were built to support it. It still retains the name of Randolph's Hall.
OS1/12/10/64 [page] 64 Site of Cross brought over - wing and the offices of the Northern wing of the Castle, the building generally is four stories high and slated, the stables are detached, two stories high and Slated, all in excellent condition to the South of the castle, on the lawn is the site of an ancient cross. Markets are said to have been held at this cross in former times, but there is none held now. Darnaway Castle is the property of the Earl of Moray. Randolph the founder & builder of the old Castle of Darnaway died in 1331 the exact date of the building is not Known
