002 | [Situation] W. [West] of Leith Chapel. This name applies to the site of ancient prison house, which stood at the entrance into South Leith Church. It was demolished in [--] along with King James's Hospital & the Old Grammar School. "The Old Grammar School and the Kintore, the ancient buildings we [were] both situated in the immediate vici [vicinity] of South Leith Church and on the [--] of the Kirkgate. The former [Old Grammar School] stood [at] the south West corner of the Church yard, and the [latter] [Kintore] being perforated by an arched passage formed the en [entrance] which led to the church from the street just named [Kirkgate] "The Kintore was a small prison-house in which the session were wont with the assistance of the bailie of St A [Anthony ?] to confine those whose immorality had brought them under its cognizance or whose contumacy had given offence to its members The bailie of St. Anthony was in former times a most important personage.
