A rectangular stone building erected in an open area at the north end of the "Back St" it consists of two compartments for the male & female pupils respectively. The building is void of any architectural embellishments except that two granite porches in the front are surmounted by nude infantile statuettes, with booKs, in a studious posture the average number of scholars is about 180 of both sexes a plain English education is given, with rudiments of the classics, it is supported by the Free Church funds, and was erected by the same, with some cash assistance from the government.
DALKEITH COLLIERY RAILWAY DalKeith Colliery Railway A private Railroad leading from the Edinbr [Edinburgh] & Dalkeith Railway station (at the latter place) to the DuKe of Buccleuch's Collieries, it formed it the expence of the present DuKe.
