[Situation] A short distance N. [North] of the Town of DalKeith.
A spacious magnificent Mansion erected upon the site of the ancient castle of Dalkeith by one of the Duchess' of Buccleuch and Monmouth about the beginning of the 18th Century with the exceptions of 4 Corinthian pilasters at the front it is void of any architectural embellishments yet situated as it is upon a peninsula between the two Esk Rivers where the natural beauty of the scenery has rendered it easy for the artificial means which have been employed to convert it into one of the most splendid residences & demesnes in the Kingdom, the whole is surrounded by a park wall several miles in circumference & numerous herds of deer have access throughout the place for pasturage, it is the property of the Duke of Buccleuch.
