" The united Parishes of Fala & Soutra are situated in the S.E. [South East] portion of the County of Edinburgh. Fala parish was united to Soutra on the 20th February 1618, its church becoming the place of worship for both parishes. On the summit of Soutra Hill formerly stood the Church & village of Soutra. this village was ancrently a place of consideration & a scene of the stirring ostentatious charity of the middle ages.
