Previous to its embouchure it blends with the "South EsK" where the continuation taKes the name of the "River EsK", it has attained celebrity throughout the Kingdom for the quality of machinery it worKs during its course 10 paper and Several other Mills being wrough by it, upon its banKs stand Several flourishing Villages viz "PenicuiK", "Lasswade" and the Towns of BalKeith and Musselburgh, as also the magnificient ruins of Robin Castle and Chapel justly celebrated for their Gothic granduer. nor do the ivy clad remains of "old Woodhouslee". "RavensnooK" and "Brunston Castle" which once defended the district form objects of Secondary interest to those who Know them to have been the strongholds if the Companions of William Wallace.
