[Note] From the information in Chalmers Caledonia and in the new Stat. [Statistical] Acct. [Account] It appears that the name St. [Saint] Marys church is not well Known nor does the name appear in the ancient Chart[?]laws as quoted by Chalmers whereas the name Mount Lothian church is well established. The authorities above quoted Concur only in calling it St. [Saint] Mary's church in Conformity with the Old Stat. [Statistical] Acct. [Account] above quoted which is the only authority for Calling it St. [Saint] Mary's church It is therefore written Mount Lothian Church.
[Note] The only vestige now Remaining of this Church is in a Small Plantation east of Mount Lothian Toll Bar, Planted and enclosed by the proprietor Sir George ClerK Bart [Baronet] to Preserve the Remains from further decay: the foundation Can Still be distinctly traced & in Some Places is still Standing 6 or 8 inches high. in other places it is almost obliterated a tombStone is Still Standing on the S. E. [South East] Side of the Ruin which is Supposed to mark the Place of the last internment. Sir George ClerK, Mr Clarkson and other Residents in the immediate locality appear Perfectly Conversant with its history & Situation. and they have pointed out the Site of
