[Object] A Quarry __ A Middling Sized Quarry On the Farm of Rusha hence its Name, The Quarry was originally opened about 40 years Ago for Road Metal when Lake Stone (the material now Sought here) was accidentally discovered. Lake Stone is of a dark Color and wrought with More facility than Free Stone it being quite as Soft and Not near So destructive to the tools. When left exposed to the atmosphere or to dampn[ess] it is quickly reduced to powder; but, if kept dry it will endure a Moderate hea[t] for an incredible length of time; hence, it is well adapted for the floors of Bak[er's] Ovens for which purpose it is pincipally Used And from this Quarry floors a[re] Sent to all parts of Scotland, to the North of England, and Some have been Sent to America Stones for the lining of Fire Safes have been Supplied from this Quarry The Stone is allways dressed at the Quarry And delivered in Edinburgh cost about 2 £ per Ton The Quarry is wrought by Andrew Muir & Robert Smith Who pay two Shillings per Ton Quarry Mail to the proprietor |
