006 | The most extensive lime stone quarries situated in the South of Scotland; they extend from east to west above 1 mile in length. with other detached portions of a perdigious size and were worked from time immemorial ; sufficient proof of that is given from the immense excavations that have been made forming one line of areas supported by rustic pillars hewn out of the lime stone rock and dipping at an angle of 25°. however of late they have not been worked; being found hardly sufficient for paying the working of them; the only one in progress is that of Burdiehouse. they are the property of Sir David Baird. |
