006 This is the site of an ancient Fort or Camp situated on the hill called Caiyside . It has been levelled long since for the purpose of Cultivation. In White's History of Liberton It is stated "N.W. [North West] from Morton House is a rampart of a circular or rather oval form intersected by the turnpike road. It is entire on the northern side but not so on the south." The historian further states, that it is his opinion that it is not a Roman camp on account of its shape but rather a Roman town or colony. All the intelligent inhabitants agree in opinion that it was a Roman Camp or defence around a town. From its continguity to the Roman Road it is almost certain that it was a work of the Romans.
