Various notes which have been crossed out are on this page, inmore than one hand.
[Note to writer of page by AMO afterwards scored out]Catch drain - or Catch Water - is usually applied to open drains on the sides of sloping ground, to catch the water and throw it into the reservoir-"Catch Drain" is seldom applied to a waste pipe- A.M.O.
As this reservoir is liable to have sometimes a superfluous supply of water in rainy seasons, a covered drain or aque-duct conveys the superfluous water into two small streams which rises near the place. This covered drain is called Catch Drain by the Corpor[ation]
Does not this apply to Forduff and not to Clubbiedean Reservoir A.M. [Overwritten by:] This applies to Forduff Reservoir Lu pipe 23 |

A Large mansion house the seat and property of Lord Dumferline. it was erected in 1820, the shape of which is rectangular two storeys in height with side wings of smaller dimensions - on the whole neat and tastefully built. the park is rather limited for the size of the house, but there is a large garden situated a short distance South, which in comparison exceeds any for size in the County. I May here mention that there remains in ruins the old mansion house a short distance south of the present Mansion and which is supposed to be more than 300 years old. Was the seat of the Foulis's, on the ground floor all the apartments are arched having walls of immense thickness. It was made ruins off at the erection of the New Mansion house |

Thanks, Nora, I appreciate your guidance. Did you see the note I left on page 67? I could not post my query in the "topic" section, as I am denied access - I don't know why.
Best Wishes,
auntylexa.
Hi AuntyLexa,
Yip, its Daveran, page 61 is a very poor signature. Sometimes we do find some of the signatures need updated as we find better and clearer versions. Some are so badly written we've only been able to work out who they are as Kate has found a book of the OS Surveyors names.
As to being denied access to some forums. We have a technical issue and cannot open up new groups for the counties that were added to the site at a later date. Just use any of the ones on the forum to ask questions (even if its a taxgroup). I mentioned this on the last newsletter ;-)
Hope you are enjoying the move from taxes to OS.
Kind Regards
Nora |

FORT [Clubbiedean Reservoir] |
Roman Camp |
Rev [Reverend] L. Balfour Colinton
John Finnie Swanston |
006 |
The remains of a Roman Camp or Station at the South West side of Clubbiedean Reservoir in a considerable state of preservation. its shape at present is somewhat oval flattened at the sides but it evidently seems to have been always curved at the ends as this not like the general formation of Roman Camps such as this rectangular. However this in a great measure may be owing to the nature of the ground or the considerable time it has been in existence. Its situation is low surrounded by hills and is not remarkable for its conspicuity like the generality of Camps, and from its present appearance it seems to have an outside trench, and an inside one, separated by a thick thrown up embankment or parapet. in a great measure I think it to be of Danish or Saxon construction, some slight tradition gives it as such, from the number of places to which "Dean" otherwise "Dane" is applied |
