005 | This magnificent mansion is the seat of the Earl of Morton, it is beautifully sitated on the south side of Gogar Burn and stands embosomed among trees the greater part of which are stately beeches belonging to the olden times. The principal part of the house was built about the beginning of the eighteenth century, but considerable addions and alterations have been made from time to time according to the taste of the different occupiers. The house is surrounded by an extensive demesne, a considerable portion of which is well stocked with deer and various kinds of game. |
