[Situation] 12 Chains South of Bruntsfield House. This Convent was established here in 1834. It was originally a dwelling house & was called the White House It was purchased at the above period by Bishop Gillis who by considerable additions & alterations made it suitable for its present purpose a handsome Chapel was also built and finished in 1835 It is a handsome structure of the Saxon Style but small & suitable as a private Chapel for the Small Convent. The principle object of this establishment is a boarding for the education of girls. the school is well attended polite & useful education is given. |
