[Situation] East side of The Castle A portion of high ground on the E. [East] side of The Castle forming an approach to the entrance. It is level and Kept clean. This place was formerly a steep and narrow pathway but in 1753 a large quantity of earth dug from the foundation of the Royal Exchange was here deposited and subsequently the walls on the north and south sides were erected. It is now used as the drill ground of The Castle and is much used as a promenade by the citizens. |
