[situation] Adjoing [Adjoining] the Palace of Holyrood This ruin was originally the nave of the Abbey Church but was in later times fitted up as a chapel Royal. The style is of the middle period of Gothic architecture and from the ornamental & superior workmanship of this remaining portion affords, suffficient proof that when entire the church must have been a magnificient Structure. The walls of the chapel are still standing & in good preservation. The South Aisle with its range of Clustered Columns and groined arches Still remain entire. The North Aisle is destroyed with the exception of two clustered columns which [continued on page 13] |
