050 [Situation] About 2 1/4 Miles S.E. [South East] of the town of Kirkcudbright.
A small natural mound which has been surrounded by an artificial fosse and rampart, but in consequence of cultivation & improvements in the land the fosse and and rampart is nearly all defaced with the exception of a small portion on the western side of the fort which is almost entire. the fort is about 100 feet in diameter at base and tapers a little to the Summit and measures about 66 feet in diameter. The people of it locality invariable call it a Moat, but people aquanted with such would call it a fort the latter in all probality is the most correct. -
