A large and handsome Street branching off High Street and running in a Northerly direction and terminating at Kirkcudbright Castle from which it took its name, the houses on each Side are two stories high slated and in good repair, it contains one Inn used as the Masonic Lodge, one Apothecaries Hall The Post Office a few Grocers Drapers & tradesmen's Shops etc. the remainder are occupied as Dwelling houses by capitalists Medical practitioners Mechanics etc. This Street is well drained and Macadamized and has a paved Causeway on each Side. It also Contains one fount or Spout which Supplies it with water.- |
