[Situation] In the southern portion of the Co. [County] Forfar. A parish in the centre of the southern division of Forfarshire; bounded on the north-west by Kinnettles; on the north by Forfar; on the north-east by Dinnichen; on the east by one of the parts of Guthrie; on the south-east by Monikie, on the south by Muirhouses on the S.W. [South West] by Tealing and on the west by Glammiss. In outline it approaches a circular figure and in measurement it is about 4¼ or 4½ miles in diametre. Although consisting principally of a little Strath, or valley yet none of its crowning eminences can claim the name of mountains Ascending gently on almost all sides from this valley the surface rolls upwards to the boundaries in soft hills. The soil in the valley is chiefly alluvial; on the high grounds is extensively a hard loam but in numerous districts is clayey or various Sandstone and gray slate abound and are plentifully worked. - This parish is in the presbytery of Forfar and Synod of Angus and Mearns. - There are no detached portions of [continued on page 4] |
