051 [Situation] On the north side of Kinloch Street near its east end
Erected in the year 1810 by private subscription. The congregation was then in connection with the original secession synod, but united with the Free Church in 1852. The church contains 220 sittings, of which 100 are let at annual rates of from 2/ to 5/- [£0.2.0 to £0.5.0] per sitting. The number of communicants for last year was 75, and the salary of the minster, the Revd. [Reverend] James Meek, varies according to the sum which the congregation pays annually into the Sustentation fund. Last year it was 130£, 85£ of which was raised by the Congregation. "The church is built on the site of an old cairn probably Commemorative of a battle fought with the Danes about the year 1100. 14 or 15 Skeletons were dug out of the foundations, and some of the neighbouring Cottages were paved with the stone Coffins" Revd. [Reverend] James Meek.
