051 | [Situation] About 4 Chains east of the parish manse About 2 years ago Mr. Airth, farmer, when clearing away a small mound at the plan marked on trace discovered a great many human bones, skulls &c., and also a few small flags which had apparently been used as rude stone Coffins. Mr. Proctor, Schoolmaster, inspected the skulls, and found them in every Case to be those of full grown male persons, and from the fact of a battle having been fought in the neighbourhood, he is of opinion, that a party of Danes when flying from the enemy must have been overtaken and slain near to this spot - |
