[Deleted Entry - Court Gate] [Authorities] John Kneddry 86 Years. David McLaren 85. Miss Dick - 85. Laird Dowie 60. [Remarks] Is not known to the oldest inhabitants, there are a few persons that profess to know something about it by hearing only they say is referred to the road that the Kings of Scotland travelled on their way from Falkland Palace to Stirling.
Justiciary Courts were held in the Crook at [about] the 16th & 17th Centuries, principally for the trial of witches etc who when found guilty were condemned to be hanged, & afterwards burnt; they were executed at the E [East] end of the village, there bodies afterwards removed to the W [West] end of the village, accompanied by the court, there to be burnt; which might have given rise to that portion of road, being called the "Court Gate"
