012 | This Castle stood on the east banK of a small rivulet and nearly opposite to Innerwick Castle. These two castles were evidently built for the purpose of mutual protection. The earliest account I can find of this castle is in a "Genealogical Accounts of Hamilton of Innerwick" where it appears that it was in the possession of John Montgomery in 1502 and afterwards became the property of Sir Alexander Hamilton of Innerwick. This castle was blown up with gunpowder about the same time as Douglas Castle which was about 1640. An arched roof off the ground flat which was of red sandstone, remained until about 50 years ago, when it was removed for building - it is now arable ground where it stood. |
