010 | [Situation] A the village of Abbey, about 1 3/4 miles E, N, E. [East North East] from Haddington Close to the Abbey mill at the hamlet of that name Stood the Abbey or Convent, Remains of which were visible in the memory of man. Messrs Thomas Hardie & William Aitken of Haddington who pointed out the spot remember traces of the site being in existence some years ago; but it has now quite dissappeared, the only remembrance of it being a portion of the ancient grave yard which is enclosed & planted with trees - For information respecting this Convent vide Miller's Hist. of Warren in England widow of Prince Henry Son of
David I. King of Scotland and mother of Malcolm IV.
surnamed "the maiden" from the fairness of his Complexion
and William surnamed the Lion Kings of Scotland founded
a priory of Nuns at the Abbey near Haddington in 1178
which was dedicated to the virgin mary. It was situated
about a mile to the eastward of the burgh on the banKs of
the river Tyne, where there is still a village of that name
but the monastery itself is entirely demolished; the ruins
