018 | [Situation] About 3/8 of a mile S.W. [South West] of Lamblair Knowe A small marshy piece of ground on the east side of Humphrey Law, through which passes the Craikmuir Road. Tradition states that when Mary Queen of Scotts - in one of her flights was passing over Craik Muir for Borthwick, that her horse foundered at this place; and that to that circumstance it owes its name. It would still be difficult for a horse to pass over this portion of the Craikmuir Road, were it not that it has been metalled of late. |
