016 This church is built on a prominent hill having a Steeple and Clock it is seated for about 1200 Present Minister Revd [Reverend] Mr Cruikshank.-
Site of ST MONK'S CHURCH 016 "The old church of Stevenston was dedicated to St. Monk. This is shown by the will of Archibald Weyr, dated 7th October 1547. The church then in existence was superseded by a new church about the year 1670 to which the people of Saltcoats added an aisle about 1744. Part of the old fabric was supposed to have been retained. This building, however, has been entirely removed within these few years, and a comfortable new building, erected [in] its place.
