030 An eminence planted with wood on the North side of the Turnpike Road leading between Muirkirk and Ayr, and about 13 chains to the South West of Greenockmains farm house. Mr Brown, whose property it is, accounts for the derivation of the name by saying there was supposed a Castle stood on it at one period. However there are no vestiges of it Remaining now, and so Remote has been the period, that even Tradition is silent on the matter -
