be found in any of the earlier documents". "Mr James Chalmers
of Sauchrie, an immediate branch of the Chalmerses of Gadgirth, his name occurs in the testament of John Henderson
of Woodstown in 1618".
Patersons Hist. [History] of Ayrshire.

Mr. William Porteous of Dalrymple says that the oldest part of this house, still preserved in good condition
was built by a Sheriff Wallace of Ayr, the celebrated John Loudon McAdam, the McAdamizer of our roads, built a large
addition to it and lastly Archibald Kelso Esq. as late as 1817 or 1818 built the last addition or made the house as it now stands, three
houses joined and communicating together.

[Below entry for Beoch]:
There never was a castle at this place as mentioned in the Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account] Mr
William Porteous of Dalrymple recollects the old Farmsteading, the dwelling house
a two storey plain building covered with thatch. None of the inhabitants ever heard
of a building at this place of more ancient date than the last mentioned.-
