009 A slight opening or hollow between two small Hills near the northern end of Craignaught Hill. A sort of track or road in former times passed through this opening & went over Craignaught Hill, and Mr. Cochrane of Grange informed me that Sir Thomas Boyd is supposed to have been killed at this place, when returning with Cattle which had been Stolen from him, or which he had stolen from the Stewarts. This is all the information which I have obtained respecting this conflict said to have taken place at Craignaught Hill.
