015 | Applies to a large Castle in a good state of preservation, built upon a rock on the South bank of the River Ugie, and about 2 miles from the mouth of the River Ugie, and 3 miles North west of the town of Peterhead the building is about fifty feet in height from the ground and on the property of the Governors of the Merchant Maiden Hospital Co. It has been observed by people living in the vicinity until within this last few years that two Ravens regularly built their nests in the chimney. "Ravenscraig is built upon a rock on the South side of the river Ugie, and as far as history throws any light upon the subject in the beginning of the thirteenth Century by one of the Cheyns, who settled in Scotland about the beginning of the Twelfth; and not as some suppose, in the Ninth Century by one of Marischal family Annals of Peterhead by P Buchan 1819 "Ravenscraig, in the barony of Torterston, is said to have belonged to the family of Keith, who afterwards acquired the lands of Inverugie by marriage. It is a fine ruin and specimen of an old baronial Castle. The walls are in some places eleven feet thick. It is supposed to have been built in the eleventh century or twelth century.
