this page & the foregoing twentie five pages
in this book Conteins ane true accompt of the haill
Harths als wele in kilns Smiddies ovens furnaces
for brewing Saltpans Soap & Glasworks as in dueling
houses within the nyne parishes herein mentioned
in the presbiterie of Dumbar (these belonging to Hospitals
& poore in Charitie excepted) according to
occular inspection had by the deponnant him
self and those intrusted by him of ovene Harth
in each House Kiln Smiddies & other p [per] Law above
mentioned And to the best of his knowledge there
ar non omitted that ar not sett doun in this
accompt And this is the truth as he sall ansr [answer]
to God

Edr [Edinburgh] 27th July 1694:
In presence of George Earle of
Linlithgow Compeared Patrick
Lamb, subCollr [subCollecter] of the Hearth=Money
within the presbyterie of Dumbar, who
being solemnly sworn & examined
declared, That the forsaid List of
Hearths Extending to One thousand
Nyn hundred fourty six hearths
which are payed. Is a just & true
List of all the hearths within the
forsaid presbyterie, to the best of his
knowledge. Excepting the Hearths
of poor people exeemed by Law
& of some other poor people who
were not able to pay their Hearth money
and that he hes used his outmost endeavour,
Conform to the proclamations
of Councell, anent the Ingathering of the
Hearth money to attaine to the knowledge
of all the forsd [foresaid] Hearths. And that
he has not wittingly or willingly concealed
any but given up the samen
truly as said is. And this is the
truth as he shall answer to God.
