[February] 1798 I Charles Farquharson Surveyor aforesaid do hereby Certify that upon carefull examination of the foregoing Duties I find they amount to thirteen pounds, eight shillings Sterling, And that upon the Twenty first day of Feby. [February] 1798 I delivered [to] Mr William Copland Collector of the Said Duties for the Burgh aforesaid an exact duplicate of the above Account of as will appear from his receipt hereunto affixed duly examined and compared with the foregoing which contained my oath that Requisitions were left with the Several persons before named or at their dwelling Houses of the dates annexed to their respective names requiring them within fourteen days to give in a list of their Draught Horses, retained or employed by them from the 5th April 1796 to the 5th April 1797, and the Said Account or Survey is made out from the lists returned to me, and from the best information I could procure of the draught Horses of those whose lists are deficient and others who neglected or refused to give in a list thereof in terms of the requisitions left with them as aforesaid. E326/10/6/12 12 I William Laidlaw Surveyor aforesaid, hereby Certify That upon Careful Examination, I find the foregoing Duties amount to the sum of Seven pounds eight shillings sterling, and that I delivered an Exact Duplicate hereof to the Collector of said Duties, which contain an Oath that the persons within named were duly served with Requisitions, and are Charged agreeably to their Returns or according to my knowledge and belief that they were liable for said Duties. Cap. xv. in the Burgh of Selkirk from the 5th of April 1797 to 5th Apr 1798 By William Brunton Surveyor I William Brunston Surveyor aforesaid do hereby certify that upon carefull examination of the foregoing dutys I find that they amount to the Sum of five pound four Shillings And that upon the Eleventh day of November I delivered to Peter Tait Collector this dutys for the Burgh aforesaid an exact Duplicate of the above duty compared which Confirmed my Oath that preceeding inhabitants were duly served with Requisitions of the dates foresaid serving them within fourteen days to deliver or cause to be delivered to me upon calling for that purpose. Burgh if Wigton I David McMillan Survyr [Surveyor] aforesaid Do hereby Certify that upon careful examination of the foregoing several rates and Duties I find they amount to the Sum of Three pounds Six Shillings Stg [Sterling] and that upon the Eleventh day of January one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight years I delivered to Mr John Hawthorn Writer Wigton Collector of the said duties for the Burgh aforesaid an exact Duplicate of the foregoing which contained my oath that requisitions or notices were delivered to or left at the several foregoing persons at their dwelling place of the dates foresaid and the charges made out from their returns or my best Information David McMillan Survr [Surveyor[ Survey of the Horse Tax for 36 Geo.
