NS32NE 114 35994 27578 Factory [NAT] OS (GIS) MasterMap, August 2009. For original location (NS 5490 6350), see NS56SW 39.03. The Palace of Engineering was originally built in Bellahouston Park, Glasgow for the 1938 Empire Exhibition. At the end of the exhibition it was dismantled and rebuilt at Prestwick Airport and now forms part of the original factory (which was created by Scottish Aviation incorporating the original terminal building and hangars) for aircraft production. Aircraft production at the site ceased in 1998. The Palace of Engineering is a particularly fine example of surviving Art Deco architecture. The building is owned by BAe Systems and can be seen on the North side of the airport directly opposite the terminal. (Undated) information in NMRS. Photographed on behalf of the Buildings of Scotland publications. RCAHMS 2009
