NY48SE 40 4633 8212 At the foot of Greena Hill, below Greena Quarry (which was in use on the date of visit), there is a disused quarry and a limekiln. The kiln comprises a bowl about 4.2m in diameter set into the hillside on the W, with a facade of mortared rubble 11m in length on the E; a faceted projection at the centre of the facade has draw arches opening to the NE and the SE. The disused quarry is situated to the SW, its floor at the level of the top of the kiln; it measures approximately 75m from NNE to SSW by 25m transversely. Both the limekiln and the quarry are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Roxburghshire 1863, sheet xlviii), which also shows a smaller quarry to the W, on the site occupied by the present Greena Quarry.
